has a young, diverse and growing population and labor
market.
· The city of Dallas, with more than one million
residents, is the ninth largest city in the U.S. and
the third largest city in Texas.
· The Dallas Primary Metropolitan Statistical
Area (PMSA), with a population of more than 3 million,
is the tenth largest in the U.S.
· The Dallas/Fort Worth Consolidated Metropolitan
Statistical Area (CMSA), with 4.8 million people, is
the ninth largest metropolitan area in the country and
is larger than 31 U.S. states.
By 2010, the D/FW CMSA is projected to be the fourth
largest in the nation.
· The D/FW area added more than 250 residents
a day between 1990 and 1999, fueling a D/FW growth rate
of almost 21%. The Dallas area was responsible for the
daily addition of more than 170 of these new residents.
· The Dallas metropolitan area has the 11th largest
Hispanic population, the 17th largest Asian population
and the 10th largest Black population.
· The Dallas area, with a median population age
of 32.6, has a young labor market compared to the national
average of 35.4.
· There are approximately 2 million people in
the Dallas PMSA civilian labor force, with an unemployment
rate around 3%, significantly lower than the Texas and
U.S. unemployment rates of 4.6% and 4.1%, respectively.
· The Dallas metropolitan area had a net gain
of over 470,000 new jobs from 1990 to 1999, with most
of the job growth occurring between 1994 and 1998 when
the D/FW area added between 80,000 and 110,000 jobs
each year.
